What is CES?
CES stands for the International Consumer Electronics Show which is the largest technology event each year and is held in Las Vegas, Nevada in January. CES lasts for several days and showcases new technology products, seminars and speakers. The event always attracts high profile names in the electronics field, such as speakers like Bill Gates, and it’s an opportunity for companies to showcase a variety of new products. Many products that now seem standard in many homes, or even obsolete, have been introduced at these shows including the VCR, DVD, CD players, HDTV, DVRs, and gaming machines like the Xbox. Even the classic video game Pong was introduced at CES.
Is registration really free?
Yes, you can register to attend the event for free before October 1, 2009. But unfortunately there is also a catch. CES is not open to the general public and you must be in the consumer electronics industry to be eligible to attend the show. Two forms of identification are required on-site (one photo ID and one proof of business affiliation/business card).
Here are some general guidelines for attending the event:
- To attend CES you must be employed in the tech industry or be a tech reporter/press representative
- Spouses and children may not attend the International CES
- Students can only attend on January 10, 2010 and will be charged $100 US
As a tech geek I have always wanted to attend this event and am planning a trip down to Las Vegas for the 2010 event. And if for some reason I can’t attend the event, then no harm done because it cost me absolutely nothing!
